The Most Scrapped Cars In 2021

20.09.2022 Billy Blog scrap cars

There is no doubt that the last few years have been strange to say the least, but through the doom and gloom of COVID and lockdowns, lives were still lived, places were still visited and cars still broke down!

The causes of failure of cars may have been a little different in some cases, with many cars not being driven for months, then suddenly back on the road in heavy traffic without the chance to get a clean run in.

However, the show must go on, and the cars that were registered as scrapped the most often in 2021 is detailed below. Whilst the outside world underwent significant changes and reasons for scrapping may of varied more than other, more traditional years, some things stay the same – including the most popular makes and models of cars that are submitted to scrap yards and car breakers up and down the country.

Without further ado, here are the top car models scrapped in 2021:

With 29,525 cars submitted to scrap yards the Ford Focus was the most scrapped car in the UK.

Following up is a couple of popular Vauxhalls – the Astra in second with 22,143 scrapped cars, then the Corsa with 21,711 cars scrapped.

The average age of a scrapped car in the UK is 14 years old, so it stands to reason why so many of these Fords and Vauxhalls are being sent to scrap yards across the country over the last few years, and possibly a few years more as they were the UK’s most popular car from 2001 – 2007

Ford was also the most scrapped car manufacturer of 2021, with more than 76,418 vehicles sent to the scrap heap over the last year.

“This is the fifth year running where we’ve seen the Ford Focus come out on top as the most scrapped car, and we expect to see it featuring highly in our most scrapped lists for many years to come yet,” said Dan Gick, Managing Director of Scrap Car Comparison.

“Popularity will always have a bearing on which cars are scrapped, and 2021’s results help to spotlight the enduring popularity of the Focus model, even if many do eventually meet the scrap heap.”
