Scrap car prices soar to new hights in 2022
- The average price of scrap cars rose to around £320 at the end of the first quarter of 2022 says CarTakBack.
- Fords were the most popular make of car to be scrapped so far in 2022.
- Average value of a scrap Ford Focus rose by 16 per cent, from £295 in January 2022 to £343 in March.
The price of scrap cars in 2022 are still on the rise, reaching record levels and increasing month-on-month.
The average for 2021, was recorded at around £240, but increases were being seen in late November and December, with average prices rising to around £260. Jan 2022 showed only a 1% rise, but the biggest rises were in February and March, with rises at 10% and 15% respectively, bringing the average scrap price to around £323
Shaun Corless, MD at Allstar Breakers, said: “There are many factors that can contribute to the price of scrap – the type of car, the condition and location all play a part.
“The current increase in the value of used cars as a whole is also continuing to have an impact on our industry, and we’re glad to pass the positive effect of that demand onto customers in our quotes.”
Ford Focus most frequently scrapped car
Allstar Breakers gets more requests for Fords (or Focus in particular) than many other make of car. This fits in with UK wide trends, showing the popularity of Fords and subsequently, the amount of scrap requests breakers yards up and down the country will receive.

More silver cars (27 per cent) were scrapped than any other colour vehicle, with blue (21 per cent) the second most common and black (18 per cent) third.
