Car Fires Drop As Scrap Prices Rise
The Rise in scrap metal prices over the last 10 years has helped to dramatically reduce the number of cars that have been set on fire by vandals on the streets of the UK, according to new figures.
Figures released from the London Fire Brigade show a huge drop in the number of car fires the service has been called out to in the last ten years. In 2013, the service attended 81 deliberate car fires each week, compared to a massive 644 per week in 2003/04.
One of the main reasons determined for the dramatic decline is the increase of scrap metal prices over the past decade, making scrap cars much more valuable due to their high metal content.
